Local businesses come together for women's expo

VIENNA, W.Va. (WTAP) - The first women's expo hosted by Carl's Pawn Shop was held at the Grand Pointe Conference Center in Vienna, Saturday.

Hundreds of people came out for the event which featured 36 small business vendors; many of the businesses were owned or operated by women.

Diane Balderson is the owner of Carl's Pawn Shop and says the idea came from a conversation on how to promote small businesses and keep them open. She says many small businesses have been opening and closing.

"Well just listening to people today, they never heard of some of the businesses that are here and so it's promoting foot traffic hopefully back to the small businesses. We're all competing against the internet this day and age, so we're hoping that this is letting the community know that we are here," said Balderson.

Balderson says there were so many businesses that wanted to be apart of the expo that there was a waiting list. She says, the turnout was great and she looks forward to the future.
