Local crossing guards get trained before school year

PARKERSBURG W.Va. (WTAP) - With the start of the school year approaching, children safety while getting to school is of utmost importance.

AAA East Central held a training session for local crossing guards at the Parkersburg Police Department. Experts gave hands-on advice to the guards in attendance, making sure they know that taking care of the children is the most important thing.

"School is about to start, and kids are anxious," said AAA Safety Adviser J.J. Miller. "Kids are excited about starting and they forget about the rules and safety."

Triple A is also asking parents and the motoring public to make sure they follow safety rules and give the message to the children while crossing the street.
