Local historian honored by state of West Virginia

Randal Modesitt of Parkersburg was recognized by West Virginia Archives and History as a West Virginia History Hero Thursday morning in Charleston.

Modesitt has been the Director of Henderson Hall since 2014, and before that was a volunteer.

In his time there he has involved volunteer groups in projects, added a heritage village that includes blacksmithing, glass blowing, and spinning, and set up a partnership with the Valley Gem, bringing even more visitors from Marietta to the historic site.

"It was kind of humbling, it really was, because, you know, what I do here I don't look at it as an opportunity to gain anything, as far as awards. So that was quite unexpected, I didn't expect to get an award for doing what I love doing anyway," Modesitt says.

He was nominated by the Wood County Historical and Preservation Society and honored alongside other historians from around the state.
