MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - Many local children in Marietta were hoping to get the "catch" of the day on Saturday.
The Union Sportsmen's Alliance held its second, "Take Kids Fishing" event. It was a free opportunity for families and kids to get involved with the outdoors and fish.
Almost 200 children and families came out to Buckeye Park to learn about conservation and fishing.
The Union Sports Sportsmen's Alliance is a national non-profit conservation organization with a mission of uniting unions.
"We as an organization raise money throughout the country through our conservation dinners and our sporting clay shoots. We take that money raised and put it back into the local communities where our union members work and serve, so this was just an opportunity to take money raised from a local dinner here in Ohio and put it back into the community," said Stroede, conservation manager of Union Sportsmen's Alliance.
Each child went home with a free fishing rod courtesy of sponsors at Pure Fishing. The organization hopes to be able to host the event on an annual basis.
