MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - This week is National Community Foundation Week. The Marietta Community Foundation kicked off the week with a youth leadership seminar.
Eight students were selected from each local high school; a boy and a girl from each grade. The students were selected by faculty members at their schools to go to the seminar and get a tour of Washington State Community College.
Students received life and leadership advice from special guest Mike Deegan, head baseball coach of Denison University.
Many students were excited to get the opportunity.
"It’s really good to have this information to go along with me, all this information is very useful for long-term and you get a head start and the more work you do early on, the less work you have to do later on," said Fairchild, Waterfor, freshman.
Deegan is hoping that students really take heed to what he said and hoping he planted seeds in their minds.
"We went over 5 or 6 different things but the thought is if they can get one or two and put it in their back pocket and use it at a different time they can be successful," said Deegan.
Students say they plan on taking what they learned and using these tools in their future.
The Marietta Community Foundation will be hosting its 45th year anniversary on Friday at 11:30 a.m. The address is 100 Putnam Street.
