Local police departments join forces for a good cause

SAINT MARYS, W. Va. The Saint Marys Police Department and the Pleasants County Sheriff's Office hosts its second annual BBQ benefit at Galaxy Food Center in Saint Marys.

The BBQ benefit is to raise money for the departments "Slow Down for the Holidays" program. The program allows people who are stopped for a minor violation or speeding ticket, the opportunity to donate a gift card or toy for a value of $50 and the citation will be voided.

"All those toys and the gift card money stays in this county, 99.9% of what we raise stays in Pleasants County and it helps the elderly out at Christmas time and kids in the community and just whoever needs it," said Sgt. Reed, Saint Marys Police Department.

The bbq benefit was very successful and the department says, they are halfway towards its goal of $10,000 in collaboration with citations.

The program ends December 16th and the court will not dismiss any citations after that date.
