PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP) - Looking to get away?
The Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport is hoping to continue increasing ridership.
Airport manager Glen Kelly joined the Parkersburg Rotary Club's weekly meeting Monday at the Blennerhassett Hotel.
He spoke to members about increasing enplanements, which is the number of passengers that get on a plane and leave. He says the infrastructure at the airport is one of the best in the state and has plenty of potential.
In 2017, the airport saw 3,646 passengers, a sharp difference from before the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
"To bring that business back, it's key that our airline partner Via remain consistent and reliable," Kelly said, "and if they can do so, I believe we can go back above 10,000 enplanements.
"I don't know if we'll ever get back to 26,000, pre-9/11, but I do believe we can get above 10 to 15,000 enplanements over the years to come."
Kelly says emplanements are up 40 percent so far this year.
