MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - Several members of the community meet to discuss various projects for the west side of Marietta.
Main Street West, an extension of Marietta Main Street, held its first monthly meeting of the year Sunday night at the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County.
Residents discussed more cleanup projects, including continued upgrades to Flanders Field and beautifying the area near the train bridge.
It also featured a virtual reality walkthrough of the neighborhood, so people could see where some future development could go. Originally, board members wanted to have a real walkthorugh of the area but decided to go the digital route because of the cold weather.
"This walkthrough is basically to get an idea of maybe some stores that can come in," Main Street West board member Jackson Patterson said, "maybe mom and pop stores, little tiny grocery stores that could maybe come into the area and help out the community, economically.
Patterson mentioned there has been interest from Dollar General and some other businesses about setting up shop in Harmar Village.
Organizers say the group can always use more ideas and volunteers. The group meets once a month.
