PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - A man arrested on Friday on methamphetamine and gun charges also had two stolen police badges in his possession, authorities said.
Joseph R. Mason, 29, who is listed as homeless in court documents, was found with the items after Parkersburg Police were called to a gas station 2301 Pike St. to investigate a person asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle at the pumps.
According to a criminal complaint in Wood County Magistrate Court, officers searched Mason and found a silver West Virginia State Police badge and a gold West Virginia Violent Crimes and Narcotics Task Force badge, along with about 18 grams of suspected meth, additional drug paraphernalia, two pistols, several air guns and ammunition.
Authorities have not said how or when Mason gained possession of the badges.
Mason was charged with possession with intent to deliver meth and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, which was the result of a 2017 drug conviction.
He remains in the North Central Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond.
