Man treated at hospital after house fire in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Fire damaged a home on Spring Street in Parkersburg late Thursday afternoon, sending one man to the hospital as a precaution, authorities said.

Firefighters were called to 1404 Spring Street about 4 p.m. after a man who lived there returned home and found smoke inside the residence, Fire Chief Jason Matthews said.

The man was taken to WVU Medicine Camden Clark to be checked out.

Firefighters put the fire out quickly, Matthews said, but a family pet died in the fire.

He said the fire was confined to the rear of the home, which had some smoke and water damage inside.

The American Red Cross responded to help the family of three people who lived in the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Matthews said.
