A Marietta College senior, will represent her home state of West Virginia in the upcoming Miss USA pageant in the Spring.

Casey Lassiter won the title of Miss West Virginia earlier this month. The pageant was at the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center in Morgantown. She beat out 36 other hopefuls.

Her friends and family encouraged her to compete based on past success at beauty contests in West Virginia fairs. On the other hand, her classmates in Marietta were surprised to hear the news.

Lassiter says they had no idea she competed in pageants. She was happy to have the experience. "It was my first time doing it, it was really intimidating and kind of overwhelming at first. But I had a really fun weekend. I met a lot of new people and it was a really positive experience. Obviously I’m really happy with the out come, it definitely was not expected at all"

Lassiter is studying biochemistry. She just found out she's been accepted into the Marietta College Physician’s Assistant Program. She'll start there next year, right around the same time as the pageant.
