MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - UPDATE: 1/11/2019

A Marietta man who allegedly assaulted two men in 2017 and 2018 pleads guilty Friday to two felony counts of kidnapping, after other charges were dismissed.

Donald Ray Barth, 56, appeared for a final pretrial in Washington County Common Pleas Court.

Additional charges of rape and impersonating an officer were dismissed.

Back in August, two men came forward to Marietta Police, alleging unwanted sexual encounters with Barth in 2017 and 2018.

Both men told police the assaults took place at two locations in Marietta after they had accompanied Barth on a “security run” after Barth claimed to be either a private security guard or a Marietta Police officer.

During the investigation, police searched Barth's home with a warrant, and found a metal badge with an Ohio seal on it, handcuffs, a CB radio and light bar that Barth had mounted to his windshield.

Police say Barth admitted to a sexual encounter with one of the men and said it was consensual, but investigators say he later provided two different accounts of what happened.

Barth must now register as a Tier-Two Sex Offender in Ohio.

His sentencing is set for February 26th.

A Marietta man is facing rape, kidnapping and other charges following his arrest by Marietta Police on Thursday.

Donald Ray Barth, 56, who’s also a registered sex-offender in Ohio, was arraigned Friday morning in Marietta Municipal Court where he was charged with one count of rape, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of impersonating and police officers and one count of possessing criminal tools.

Marietta Police say two men recently came forward to police and said Barth had “molested” or “raped” them on separate occasions in 2017 and 2018.

Both men told police the assaults took place at two locations in Marietta after they had accompanied Barth on a “security run” after Barth claimed to be either a private security guard or a Marietta Police officer.

Police say they went to Barth’s home with a search warrant on Thursday and found a metal badge with an Ohio seal on it, handcuffs, a CB radio and light bar that Barth had mounted to his windshield.

Police say Barth admitted to a sexual encounter with one of the men but said it was consensual. Police say he later provided two different accounts of what happened.

Barth’s bond was set at $350,000 during his arraignment. He remains in the Washington County Jail.
