According to the American Cancer Society, a little more than 1 in 3 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
Memorial Health System along with the Congressional Families Cancer Prevention Program hosts its cancer prevention, early detection, and wellness day to educate people in the community and make them aware of the resources available.
Organizers stressed the importance of early detection.
"We know that we cannot prevent 100 percent of cancers but early detection helps us to catch cancers at stages 1 or stage 2 which makes it significantly easier to treat and gives patients a much better chance to have a better outcome," said Schuler, director of community health and wellness, Memorial Health System.
Memorial Health System offers screenings for free or at low cost and has income-based programs available.
