Motorcyclist killed in collision with school bus in Athens County

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WTAP) - A school bus and a Harley Davidson motorcycle collided Thursday afternoon on State Route 356 in Athens County, killing the driver of the motorcycle, police said.

Five students from the Alexander Local School District on the bus were not injured, according to the Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Bruce W. Sheppard, 63, of Zaleski, was thrown from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened about 3:40 p.m. when the 2004 International school bus, driven by Charles F. Horvath, 65, of Albany, went left of center while traveling north and hit the motorcycle, which was going south.

The motorcycle and the bus both caught fire and became fully engulfed after the crash, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
