PARKERSBURG, WV (WTAP)-- A controversial ordinance to regulate motorized bicycles in Parkersburg was modified again Tuesday evening.
City Council amended the ordinance, which had been up for a final reading, meaning final passage will be delayed until at least council's next meeting.
The proposal current requires anyone riding a motorized bicycle to wear a fluorescent reflective vest. However, council voted 5-4 to approve an amendment made by Councilman Eric Barber to require an approved bicycle safety helmet as well..
Councilwoman Sharon Kuhl said there were three more additional amendments yet to be introduced.
In the meantime, motorized bicycle riders are assembling the gear in anticipation of the new regulations.
