MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - Early voting for Ohio's March Primary Election opens on Wednesday, and the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department fielded questions Tuesday night about a proposed levy.
West Muskingum (Marietta) residents will be voting on the levy that would provide money for the VFD to pay the salaries of employees who would be hired to make runs during daytime hours.
Many of the department's volunteers also work daytime jobs, leaving a void in the West Muskingum area.
When no Oak Grove volunteers are available, other nearby departments
such as Devola and Warren are called to help. Devola already has some paid employees.
According to the Oak Grove VFD, the owners of a $100,000 home would pay $150 to $200 a year in new taxes if the levy is approved.
