Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Departments wants to pay EMT crew

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - There are 17 volunteer fire departments in Washington County.

The Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department has been a volunteer department for the last 61 years. Recently, the department has not been receiving enough help due to volunteers having other jobs.

Oak Grove is primarily an older community and the elderly residents are unable to volunteer.

The department says, the hardest time to get people to volunteer is during the week.

"So when you have an emergency that time is off the essence," said Mason. "You could potentially be waiting for quite sometime for an ambulance unless we pull from Marietta which is then taking services out of the city."

The department invites residents to come to the meeting and give suggestions and to discuss a possible levy to support the paid EMT crew.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 25th at the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
