Deputies ID man fatally shot by officer in Montgomery, W.Va.

MONTGOMERY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - UPDATE: 2/11/19 3:43 P.M.

Deputies have released the name of a man killed in an officer-involved shooting in Montgomery, West Virginia.

Eric Young, 34, of Montgomery, died Monday, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting happened on 3rd Avenue, just about a block from Montgomery City Hall.

Montgomery Police Chief Paris Workman says an officer heard a disturbance and went to check on it. That's when young was shot and killed.

Authorities have not said what led to the shooting.

The officer, who has three years' experience, is on paid administrative leave during the investigation.

Workman says the officer has three years of experience.
