Ohio woman meets mother for first time since being put up for adoption

SAN DIEGO, CA (CNN) - San Diego's airport was the scene of an emotional family reunion on Friday that was really more like a first meeting.

An Ohio woman flew in to meet her mother -- who she hasn't seen since she was a baby more than 50 years ago.

Karen Leslie put her daughter, Erin Chatterton, up for adoption 51 years ago.

And after years apart and a flight delay, Chatterton finally got to meet her biological mother. Hugs and tears flowed all around. The reunion only came about because of an Ancestry DNA test.

“I was sitting by a campfire opened my email and saw the results and I just cried and cried. This part of me that I’ve always wondered is now answered,” Chatterton said.

The family says they have a lot of catching up to do. They're going to start that process with a family barbecue.
