One killed in single vehicle crash in Athens County

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WTAP) - Authorities from the Athens post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a single vehicle crash in Athens County early Friday morning that killed one person, and injured six others.

Joshua M. Hughes, 19, was driving west of Johnson Rd. on U.S. Route 33 in a 2004 Saturn Vue at around 2 a.m. on Friday morning when he went off the road into the median and rolled.

Connor Douglas Seevers, age 19, of Uhrichsville, Ohio was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene by the Athens County Coroner.

Mckale Marie Losey, age 19, of Glouster and John Douglas Fitch, age 23, of Columbus were airlifted from the scene by Med-Flight and taken to Grant Medical Center with serious injuries.

Cassandra Lynn Carl, age 18, of Salem, Ohio and Lila I. Mortenson, age 17 of Nelsonville were transported to O'Bleness Hospital by Athens County EMS then subsequently airlifted by Med-Flight to Grant Medical Center.

Elden Demond Burnside, age 20, of Wooster and Mr. Hughes were transported by Athens County EMS to O'Bleness Hospital where they were treated and released.

The road was closed both ways for three hours while the Ohio Department of Transportation detoured traffic.

The crash is still under investigation.
