UPDATE: Name of man who died in house fire released

PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP) - UPDATE: 11/5/2019 4:00 P.M.

Parkersburg Fire Chief Jason Matthews tells WTAP that Jeffrey Brown, 58, died in the fire on Polk Street on Monday afternoon.

Brown and his wife, Linda Carter, who was hospitalized in the fire, both were the owners of the home that is considered a total loss from the fire.

Officials are still working to investigate the cause of the fire, and we will have more details when they become available.

UPDATE: 11/4/2019 9:24 P.M.

The Parkersburg Fire Department Chief says the name of the woman hurt in this fire is Linda Carter. She is 53-years-old. She is being treated overnight at WVU Medicine Camden Clark for burns.

The name of the man that died in the fire has not been released yet, pending notification of the family.


One person is dead and one is injured in a fire Monday afternoon in Parkersburg.

The Parkersburg Fire Department was called to a house fire at 2707 Polk Street shortly before 1:00 PM.

Heavy flames were seen coming from the front door and window of the home.

Chief Jason Matthews says one person was found deceased in the home. A woman who was in the home was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

Matthews says his department is looking for what started the fire.
