Investigation prompts extra officers at Federal Hocking schools; no credible threat found

STEWART, Ohio (WTAP) - Athens County authorities investigating online comments sent extra officers to the Federal Hocking schools campus on Friday, but Sheriff Rodney Smith said it was strictly precautionary.

Smith said deputies and a school-resource officer began investigating Thursday night but found no credible threat. He described the situation as “not really a threat.”

George Wood, superintendent of Federal Hocking Local Schools, said Friday morning there was never a threat and that school was in session as scheduled.

He said the district sent emails and text messages Friday morning to inform parents about the situation, which he called "nothing more than a rumor."
