PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP) - The 4th annual Pink Cupcake Run went on as planned, despite the rain, Sunday.
October is breast cancer awareness month and WVU Medicine Camden Clark wanted to kick it off with something fun.
The run benefits the pink mammogram fund which provides free mammogram screenings, diagnostics, and biopsies for local residents who are uninsured or under insured.
"It's all about recognizing their survivorship and you are deemed a survivor the day of diagnosis, so its a fight and we're going to fight with them the whole way, Camden Clark stands ready to be partners with our cancer survivors," said Couch, director, WVU Camden Clark Foundation.
Carol Cathey was diagnosed with breast cancer on July 8, 2019 and had a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery in August and today, she is a survivor.
"The only reason that they diagnosed by cancer was through a mammogram that I had at Camden Clark. I didn't have a lump that I felt it was all through the mammogram," said Cathey.
Organizers were still pleased with the turnout and look forward to an even better turnout next year.
