PARKERSBURG W.Va, (WTAP)- Club begins a new programing period next week. They break down their programing into the categories.
The first is academic, where students receive school tutoring and homework help in numerous subjects.
The healthy lifestyle category includes basketball, swimming challenges, and conditioning programs to encourage healthy habits.
Organizers with the club say that they’re looking to help children develop life skills.
“These programs are able to help our kids build great futures for themselves. A lot of things that we’re doing are skill based, things that are helping kids learn how to be healthy, how to succeed academically, how to meet their personal goals so when they graduate from high school, they have a plan for their own future,” says Ben Shuman, the Executive Director of the Parkersburg Boys and Girls Club.
The Boys and Girls Club is open to all kids ages 6 to 18 and it costs $20 to enroll for the year.
The organization says it has about 100 kids in the club during the school year and up to 200 over the summer.
