PARKERSBURG, Wv (WTAP)-- Is Parkersburg City Council attempting to restrict public involvement by moving their meeting time?
Tuesday evening, City Council voted on a resolution to change their start time for council meetings to 6 p.m.
Several citizens spoke out in opposition to the change, suggesting it was an attempt to restrict public involvement.
But several council persons say it was an effort to encourage participation, or, to better time-manage.
After several attempts to amend the proposal, each option...6, 6:30, and 7 p.m. start times... were voted down.
Meetings remain the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
In other action, Council reduced the Fire Fees by 5%, as expected.
And Council approved final reading to give certified EMTs a 50 cent raise after five years of employment.
