PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) of Parkersburg is working to expand their programming, and this week they’re expanding their senior programs into volleyball.
Some seniors say it’s best to keep moving, and for those who don’t like running or other traditional workouts, playing a sport is a nice way to stay active.
According to Activities and Sports Director Jeff Snider, senior volleyball is a low impact version of the usual sport. The nets have padded polls, and the ball is softer.
“Sometimes we play with chairs if we need to be, but most of it’s two hand volleyball. And it’s not that many people yet, hopefully we expand, but it’s low impact, softer ball and it’s good for the seniors to get out and be active,” said Snider.
The league plays on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and though the league is currently small, players and organizers hope to see it grow.
