Thursday is Deputy Director Peggy Byers last day at the Washington County Board of Elections.

After 13 years of service, Byers is retiring to travel with her husband and to spend time with her grandchildren.

It’s all bittersweet, as Byers is happy to go, but says she will miss her coworkers and the dynamic work environment.

“I mean, I think I’m ready for it. Like I said, my husband has been retired for a year and he still stays busy but it’s on his own time and he’s definitely selling it to me. So, I’m looking forward to it really,” said Byers.

She plans on staying politically active, but on her own time.

Byers replacement, Karen Pawloski, starts on the second of January. Byers says Pawloski previously worked on Ted Strickland’s campaign and for the Ohio Department of Transportation.
