Peoples Bank donating winter coats to area charities

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ohio (WTAP) - With winter weather in full effect, not all children in the region can afford heavy coats to keep them warm.

Peoples Bank took the time to donate over 100 brand new winter coats to four charities in Wood and Washington County on Monday.

In Wood County, they donated to North Clothing Closet at North Parkersburg Baptist Church, and Community Resources in Parkersburg.

They then moved to Washington County to provide coats to Gospel Mission Food Pantry, and Washington Morgan Community Action.

Peoples Bank selected those charities because of their direct impact to the community.

"It's a blessing to receive the coats," said Candy Waite, Director of Gospel Mission Food Pantry. "It's going to keep a lot of children warm. We're just so very very thankful that people are helping us to help others, because without them, we couldn't do this."

"Obviously, these are coats of all sizes," said David Billbright, Executive Director of Washington Morgan Community Action. "Kids have to walk to school, they have to wait for the school bus. In cold weather it's really really important that they have something warm to wear, so this will be great for them."

This is the bank's first time making this holiday donation, and they also have plans to donate to charities in Sistersville and New Martinsville.
