MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - If you're thinking of adding a four-legged friend to your family this holiday season, check out your local shelters.
The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley is almost at capacity. Currently, they have over 100 cats and over 80 dogs at the shelter.
Workers say they love matching up families with an animal and the holidays are a great time to adopt.
"It's Christmas time and if the children are ready and they've had all their conversations, it's great when it's a first pet for a child during the holidays," shelter assistant manager Rennelle McIntire said. "They get super excited."
Meanwhile, the shelter is holding promotions on both cats and dogs for the month of December.
"For December, we're doing a name your price adoption fee. You do $16.75 if you're a Washington Cunty resident for your 2019 dog tag and then you name your price for your adoption fee" she added. "And then the cats are buy one get one free, and the adoption fee is $40."
If you're interested in adopting, visit the shelter at 90 Mount Tom Road.
