UPDATE | Second Mason armed robbery suspect arrested

MASON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - UPDATE: 8/13/19 11:57 a.m.

Police arrested the second of two suspects in connection with an armed robbery at a gaming parlor in Mason County, West Virginia.

David Tyler Smith, 22, of Hurricane, turned himself in to the Point Pleasant Police Department. Officers then took him to the Western Regional Jail around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Hurricane Police already arrested Roger Lee Akers II, 29, also of Hurricane, Monday afternoon. He was captured in Teays Valley with assistance from the Putnam County Sheriff's Department. They found Akers around 4 p.m. and took him to the South Central Regional Jail.

Both are charged with felony armed robbery through Mason County Magistrate Court.

According to the Mason Police Department, the pair robbed the T&T #1 spot on Midway Street around 7:45 Sunday night.

The clerk told police the two men walked in and Akers demanded the cash register. When the clerk said no, Akers allegedly lifted his shirt and showed a gun. The clerk said Akers then ripped the cash register from the wall.

Mason Police thanked West Virginia State Police, the Mason County Sheriff's Department, Point Pleasant Police Department, Putnam County Sheriff's Department, and the Hurricane Police Department for their assistance.

One of two men wanted in connection with an armed robbery at a gaming parlor in Mason County was arrested Monday in Putnam County, police said.

Hurricane Police arrested Roger Akers on Monday in Teays Valley with assistance from the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities are still looking for another unidentified suspect.

The T&T #1 spot on Midway Street in Mason was robbed about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Mason Police said.

Authorities continued to search Monday morning for two men suspected of an armed robbery at a gaming parlor in Mason County on Sunday.

Mason Police Department Officer Clayton Gibbs said the T&T #1 spot on Midway Street was robbed about 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

Gibbs identified one of the suspects as Roger Akers, who's believed to be in Putnam County. The second suspect hasn't been identified.

The two men were last seen driving away in a White Chevrolet Silverado pickup, police said.

A store clerk told police the two men walked in and Akers demanded the cash register. When the clerk said no, Akers allegedly lifted his shirt and showed a gun before ripping up the cash register.

Police said anyone she sees either suspect should call 911 and not approach them.

The Mason County Sheriff's Office and the West Virginia State Police are assisting in the investigation.
