UPDATE 7/6/17 3:51 PM

AEP Ohio had an outage in Belpre Thursday morning because of a problem with a piece of equipment at the city's substation.

They had to cut the power to repair a disconnect switch. It affected about 4,300 customers.

The power was restored by 11 a.m. after being off for about an hour.

"There was a short notice given to customers, about 40 minutes notice, that the power would be out for about an hour. Power has since been restored. Everything is back on and repaired and hopefully there will be no more issues out there," said Karen Salajko, AEP Ohio spokeswoman.

First Energy also reported two power outages Thursday morning near Elizabeth and Palestine, West Virginia.

The 40 customers affected had their electricity back by 1:30 Thursday afternoon.

Several power outages Thursday impacted thousands of people across the Mid-Ohio Valley.

In Washington County, AEP reported 3 separate outages, planned for maintenance, in the Belpre area, affecting nearly 4,300 people and shutting off traffic lights at many intersections. AEP says electricity should be restored throughout Belpre by 11:00 A.M.

First Energy also reported 2 power outages Thursday morning near Elizabeth and Palestine, West Virginia, affecting a total of 40 customers. Power is expected to be restored in those areas by 1:30 P.M. Thursday.
