PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Parkersburg South High School is giving away prom dresses on Wednesday and Thursday to students who need them.
The Prom committee at the school reached out to the community for these dresses, and that results in around 100 dresses being donated to the school every year.
Earrings and corsages were also available to pair with the numerous dresses.
The committee is very grateful for the support of the Parkersburg community for being able to provide for the high school students who may have trouble affording to go to prom.
"I'm proud to be part of such a generous community, and it does make me really proud to teach in Parkersburg," said Abbie Burge, art teacher and head of prom committee at PSHS. "Prom is really expensive, and I think that anything that we can do to defray those costs and help kids, our community seems to welcome those types of ideas with open arms."
The dresses will still be available on Thursday during the school's lunch session. the first one beings at 11:10 a.m. and goes until 11:55 a.m., and the second session begins at 12:50 p.m. and ends at 1:35 p.m.
