CUTLER, Ohio (WTAP) - The Research and Identification of Early Occupancy of Southern Ohio come together to celebrate National Native American Indian Heritage month in Cutler.
The organization celebrates its 5th annual casserole cook-off while sharing native art and artifacts.
Organizers also discuss the journey of the Nahyssan tribe want the community to know that they are there and that there are Native Americans from Ohio.
"We really think its important not just to do things that support our tribe but also the supporting community around us," said Tabler, economic coordinator, RIEOSO.
The organization will be petitioning for federal recognition in hopes of providing infrastructure, education, and economic support.
