MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - Craft beer continues to rise in popularity nationwide and here in Ohio.
The Akron Beacon Journal reported new numbers from the Colorado-based Brewers Association which show Ohio ranks number four nationally for total craft beer production, trailing only Pennsylvania, California and Colorado.
Last year, the Buckeye state produced 1.4 million barrels of craft beer.
Local breweries say there is a growing demand for locally-made products like beer.
"What I see is a lot of people that are traveling when they're on the road they're looking up places to go eat," Marietta Brewing Co. owner Tony Styer said, "and they want something that they can eat that's local and also drink."
"When I'm on the road, I'm looking for the craft breweries because I know that they care about the product they're putting out. It's not mass produced, the ingredients are carefully chosen."
Since Styer bought Marietta Brewery in 2010, the number of breweries in Ohio has increased from around 50 to nearly 300.
