Residents of Parkersburg apartment building forced out after small fire

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - A small fire Wednesday afternoon has temporarily displaced several residents of an apartment building in Parkersburg, authorities said.

Parkersburg firefighters responded to the fire at 2717 Bird St. about 3:45 p.m., according to a dispatch supervisor at the Wood County 911 center. The six-unit apartment building is located directly behind the Der Dog Haus restaurant on 7th Street.

Authorities said one person who was having trouble breathing was taken to WVU Medicine Camden Clark to be checked out.

Parkersburg Fire Chief Jason Matthews said there was a small fire in the ceiling and that investigators are still trying to determine how it started.

Matthews said the American Red Cross was called to assist six families who lived in the building because electricity had to be turned off.
