Ripley man gets 8-year sentence on federal child-porn charge

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WTAP) - A Jackson County man who pleaded guilty to a child-pornography charge in January was sentenced to eight years in prison on Friday in U.S. District Court in Charleston.

Connor A. Putillion, 23, of Ripley, admitted to asking a 13-year-old girl to send him sexually explicit photos on Snapchat, though prosecutors said the girl did not comply.

Prosecutors said he also admitted to authorities that he drove the girl from West Virginia to Virginia, where he touched her genital area over her clothing.

“These are horrendous crimes,” said United States Attorney Mike Stuart. “Guys like Putillion that prey on innocent children need to be locked up.”

Following his release from prison, Putillion will be on supervised release for 25 years and be required to register as a sex offender.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office handled the investigation.
