Robot helps Ohio student with disabilities attend classes

BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (CNN) - An Ohio high school student with disabilities is happy to be back in school -- with the help of some new technology.

Jimmy Humphreys has multiple disabilities, including visual impairment.

After struggling in school for a while, he’s back at Brookfield High School in Brookfield Township thanks to the assistance of a robot.

The device allows him to join the classroom and participate in real time.

He can talk with the teacher, other students and participate just as if he were physically in the room.

The school received the robot for free from Ohio State University.

"When I stopped going to school, I noticed a real downhill slope from not interacting with people. So now that I'm back interacting with people it has really changed my attitude,” Humphreys said.

The battery on the robot lasts all day -- and since there are no stairs at the school, it has no problems getting around.
