The Salvation Army of Parkersburg kicked off its annual Red Kettle Campaign at Grand Central Mall in Vienna Friday.

The event featured a ceremony with performances by the Jackson Middle School Choir and the Salvation Army's brass band. Musical selections included notable Christmas songs like "Jingle Bell".

The Red Kettle Campaign is the primary fundraiser for the salvation army, supporting its daily operations, programs and social services. Volunteer bell-ringers stand outside local stores such as Kroger and Walmart collecting donations in the red kettle.

Major Patrick Richmond, Commanding Officer for the Parkersburg Salvation Army says this year the goal is raise at least $125,000 to further the organization's mission.

Bell-ringers will be at their posts beginning at 10 a.m. through December 24 at locations throughout Parkersburg, Vienna and Ripley.
