CLEVELAND, Ohio (CNN) - Democrats around the country are calling for Virginia governor Ralph Northam to resign after a racist photo was discovered on his medical school yearbook page. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown is among them. He expressed his views of the situation on Meet the Press on Sunday.
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) said, “Well he should remain in the public square by explaining and talking and working to heal. But he should do it from a position of private citizen and I agree with Congresswoman Bass and Congressman Mceachin I thought their insights were very important. I think he should resign now. He then can contribute to this dialogue but as I said he should do it as a private citizen."
Governor Northam said he doesn't believe it's him in a photo from his yearbook page that shows one person in blackface and another wearing a Ku Klux Klan robe. He did admit that he had in fact worn black face when he was younger but didn't believe then it was inappropriate.
