Senator Brown announces grants for Washington County and others

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) has announced awards to several companies across Ohio, including two in Washington County.

Washington State Community College, in Marietta, received $618,150 for their Robotics and Manufacturing Technology Education Collaborative. The money bwill expand RAMTEC, which is a training and workforce development program that educates workers in advanced manufacturing, automation, and robotics to the southern portion of Appalachian Ohio.

Washington Electric Cooperative, Inc., also in Marietta, received $24,500 for a Broadband Feasibility study. The study will assist WECI with decisions on whether to pursue deployment of broadband services within its member service territory of Athens, Guernsey, Monroe, Morgan, Noble, and Washington Counties.

The largest grant was awarded to the Buckeye Rural Electric Cooperative in Gallilopis for $2,500,000 for the Southeast Ohio Broadband Backbone project. The Plains also received a grant of $1,235,727 for their sset-based Entrepreneurship: Trails, Towns, and Tourism in the Appalachian Ohio Economy project.
