PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP) - The fire department recommends changing your smoke detector batteries when you set your clocks back an hour Saturday night for daylight savings.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, 71% of smoke detectors failed because of dead batteries or from being disconnected.
"Changing your batteries on the clock change is an identifiable time everybody knows about, when you don't change the batteries frequently that detectors won't work properly or they won't function at all," said Cpt. Wix, Parkersburg Fire Dept.
The Parkersburg Fire Department offers courtesy checks on smoke detectors for Parkersburg residents.
