Spring flower fundraiser for Doug McLain Scholarship held this week

PARKERSBURG, W.Va (WTAP)- How many opportunities do you get to support the education of a future first responder?

Well in just a few days you’ll get the chance.

The second annual flower sale to support the $1,000 Doug McLain scholarship fund will be held this Thursday at Bicentennial Park. There will be 100 ten inch hanging baskets including ferns, petunias, million bells, and other spring flowers for sale.

“We do this prior to Mother’s Day because we know everybody is in the market for flowers and it’s a great cause for the Doug McLain scholarship fund,” explains Terri Klingenberg, a volunteer.

“The fund was established about two years ago by the family and friends of Doug McLain. It is a scholarship that is awarded to a graduating senior going into the field of public safety. Whether it be police officer, fire fighter, EMT, paramedic, as long as it’s in the field of public safety,” adds Pennie McLain, Doug’s wife.

The flower sale will begin at 10 Thursday morning and will end at 2, or until the flowers run out. Each basket will cost $15.
