MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - A local elementary school introduces kids to various jobs with its first career fair.
Harmar Elementary organized its first ever career day Thursday. Students learned from workers in different areas such as Marietta Fire Department, law enforcement, cosmetology, culinary and more.
WTAP's Duncan Goldberg even spoke to kids about a career in sports broadcasting.
Organizers say the goal is to expose students to careers they might not see in their everyday lives.
"As students grow in this community, they aren't aware of different opportunities that are available," teacher and organizer Katelyn Eckrote said, "so if we can expose our students at a younger age to know or learn about a variety of different careers....maybe they will pursue a different path than what they would otherwise pursue."
Eckrote added she hopes to put on the event again in the future and recruit even more community partners.
