MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - The Washington County Common Pleas Court held an annual tailgate party in the building ahead of Saturday's big college football game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Employees showed up in Buckeyes or Nittany Lions gear and were able to enjoy snacks and drinks and play cornhole.

But there was more to celebrate that just the game as Judge John Triplett returned to the courthouse for the first time since suffering a stroke and undergoing treatment for a brain tumor.

He was very happy to be back with his co-workers and also enjoyed the party in his Ohio State T-shirt.

"It's absolutely amazing seeing him back here," said Judge Mark Kerenyi. "He got to go sit in his office. We left it just like it was with all his pictures. He got to go in his courtroom. He so badly wants to come back, and I think he'll be ready at some point."

Triplett is still working to improve his speech, but everyone is optimistic about a return to the courthouse as soon as possible.
