MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - The U.S. Census Bureau is looking for workers in Washington County for next year's 2020 census.
A representative set up a table at Marietta Main Street's First Friday event.
The bureau is looking to recruit over 500 workers in the county.
The census is taken every 10 years and serves a number of purposes, including determining state and federal funding for public programs as well as drawing districts for house representatives.
"We're looking for enumerators, and address canvasers," representative Steve Anderson said. "We will be hiring 540 people in Washington County. If you live in another county, even Wood County, you'll want to go online. It's all digital. You'll apply online at 2020census.gov/jobs."
Anderson says wages start at $14 an hour and go up from there. This is the first census where hiring is taking place entirely online.
