At 8:18 Sunday morning, the Parkersburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the 1300 block of Myrtle Street.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they did a primary and secondary sweep of the home and were able to conclude that there was no one in the structure at the time of the fire.

“The home was vacant; we’ve talked to the neighbors. We are working with the police department just trying to find out more information about what was the cause of the fire. But at this time it is looking like it is an incendiary fire, someone intentionally set this," noted

Jason Matthews, Chief of the Parkersburg Fire Department.

The roof of the home had partially collapsed when firefighters arrived on scene, so an excavation crew was called to prevent further unexpected collapses.
