UPDATE: Vienna man pleads guilty to meth and child neglect charges

A Vienna man arrested in January during a search warrant at a Parkersburg home pleads guilty Tuesday to felony methamphetamine and child neglect charges.

Michael Lee Barker, 29, of 41st Street in Vienna, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Wood County Court to one county of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and one count of child neglect.

Barker was indicted on the charges after a search warrant officers conducted in January at a home on Spring Street in Parkersburg.

Inside the home, officers found 3 adults and 4 children, and questioned the adults.

Barker told officers he hid methamphetamine inside a dresser belonging to one of the children.

Inside the dresser, officers found 20 grams of methamphetamine, and in the same bedroom they found U.S. currency, digital scales and packaging consistent with drug trafficking.

Barker's sentencing is set for February 15, 2019.

A Vienna man faces felony methamphetamine and child neglect charges after police searched a Parkersburg home on Wednesday.

At 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, officers with the Parkersburg Narcotics Task Force and The Parkersburg Police SWAT Team executed a search warrant at a home at 1334 Spring Street in Parkersburg.

Inside the home, officers found 3 adults and 4 children, and questioned the adults on where the drugs they were suspected of selling were located.

Michael Lee Barker, 29, of 41st Street in Vienna, told the officers he hid methamphetamine inside a dresser belonging to one of the children.

Inside the dresser, officers found 20 grams of methamphetamine, and in the same bedroom they found U.S. currency, digital scales and packaging consistent with drug trafficking.

Barker was arrested and charged with Possession with the Intent to deliver Methamphetamine and Child Neglect Creating Risk of Injury, both felonies.

Barker was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court and his bond was set at $100,000.

He is in the North Central Regional Jail.

No one else at the home was arrested or charged with any crime.

The Parkersburg Narcotics Task Force is a multi-jurisdictional drug unit comprised of officers from the Parkersburg Police Department, Vienna Police department, Williamstown Police Department, Wood County Sheriff’s Department, and the West Virginia State Police.
