Update: Retirement party for WTAP General Manager Roger Sheppard
WTAP's long-time General Manager Roger Sheppard is retiring Friday, March 3, 2017.
Wednesday, a surprise party honored him. Friends and colleagues gathered at the Parkersburg Art Center to wish him well.
Sheppard has worked for WTAP for nearly 30 years. He's had a lot of different roles, including news director, anchor, reporter, account executive and local sales manager.
He became general manager in 2000 and has been in this role for the last 17 years. His replacement, WTAP's current General Sales Manager Ken Long, says he has big shoes to fill.
"I'm humbled to say the least. It's something I've been striving for for a long time. Roger Sheppard has done an incredible job here for a long time. He's meant a lot to the community and done a lot for a lot of people," said Ken Long, WTAP's future general manager.
A half-hour long special will air Friday, March 3, 2017 at 12:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. about Sheppard's time at WTAP.
It will air again Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. immediately following the Wood County Society Telethon.

Sheppard has worked for WTAP for nearly 30 years … three years in the early 1980s, but most of them have been since 1990.
Sheppard served as News Director, anchor, reporter, account executive, and local sales manager before being named GM in 2000.
His last day on the job will be March 3rd.
