WVUP hosts school year kickoff event

PARKERSBURG, W.Va (WTAP)- West Virginia University at Parkersburg held a school year kickoff event Monday morning at the college.

Faculty and staff were welcomed back to campus to collaborate and make sure the school year is starting on the same page.

The University President Dr. Chris Gilmer set the theme for the year as "open your heart".

He said he believes this theme reflects the Strengths of the WVUP faculty and staff and the goals that they set as a university

“I really thing what’s important is for our students to know that not just our doors are open, but our hearts are open and that everything that we’re doing, we’re doing with them in mind,” says Dr. Gilmer.

Dr. GIlmer spoke to staff about new programs, building upgrades, and new fundraising campaigns.

The event additionally served as a toy drive to benefit The Children’s Listening Place.
