Washington Co. man jailed after firing rifle at wife, child

WHIPPLE, Ohio A 37-year-old Washington County man is facing multiple charges after firing a rifle at his wife and child Sunday afternoon.

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Chad A. Burdette of Whipple, Ohio, fired between six and eight shots at his wife and child inside their home.

Deputies responded to the home, located in the 400 block of Hartline Road, just before 3:30 p.m. on reports of shots being fired.

The wife, whose name was not released, told deputies Burdette was acting erratic and possibly under the influence of something. She locked herself and the child in the home's bathroom before the pair escaped and fled into the woods. They were later rescued by the sheriff's department.

Authorities say they believe the incident began over a domestic dispute.

The woman and child were treated and released at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

Burdette is currently in Washington County Jail facing charges including: two counts of kidnapping, felony domestic violence, and having weapons while under disability.

He is scheduled to appear in Marietta Municipal Court on Monday morning.
